Declaring a state of emergency in 2022, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass launched Inside Safe to bring unhoused people inside from tents and encampments, and to prevent encampments from returning.
Operations are conducted in collaboration with members of the Los Angeles City Council, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, and multiple service providers.
In the first year of the program, it brought more than 21,000 Angelenos inside.
